Plumber
in Pinetown
Plumber in Pinetown for geysers, drains, leaks and burst pipes, on houses built into the hills above the uMbilo and the Palmiet. You hear honestly when someone can come, the cause is found before anything is quoted, and the price is agreed before work starts.
Request a call-outWhat we come out for
Four kinds of work, and a page for each on how the fault shows up on a hillside property and how the price is worked out.
Geyser repair
No hot water, a dripping overflow, a trip switch that keeps dropping, or a ceiling stain under the geyser.
Blocked drains
Slow basins, a toilet that rises, a gully that overflows in the rain, a smell that comes back.
Water leak detection
A meter that turns with every tap shut, a bill that jumped, a damp patch nobody can explain.
Emergency plumbing
A burst pipe, a geyser letting go, or sewage coming up inside the house during a storm.
Further out, we also cover Westville, Hillcrest and Queensburgh, each with a page of its own.
After a big storm, walk the property
Pinetown is a town of slopes. Rain that lands above your house crosses your garden on its way to the river, and that is where most storm-season plumbing faults start.
Storms here are not a rare event. On 13 March 2025 the South African Weather Service raised its warning for eThekwini from level 2 to level 6 in a single day. On 18 September 2026 another level 6 warning came before mudslides at Tshelimnyama in Mariannhill, just outside Pinetown, where roughly three houses collapsed.
Pinetown grew up on the banks of the uMbilo and, apart from its flat town centre, it is hilly. Sewers follow the low ground, and the low ground is where floods hurt them. After the April 2022 floods, broken sewer pipes beside streams sent raw sewage past homes on Dove Road in Hatton Estates, past a factory wall on Halifax Road beside the Palmiet, and into the uMbilo near Padfield Park, where 27 homes on Doone Road were affected.
Two things make each new storm harder on that network. eThekwini says silt left behind in sewer lines after floods has reduced how much they can carry. And illegal connections that send rainwater into the sewer cause what Paolo Candotti of the Mend the Molweni Project called "massive inflows of liquid into pump stations during rain events", often with sand in them.
For a house on a slope, that leaves three weak points. Runoff from higher up reaches your gully and paving first. The sewer below you may be full of rainwater, so your drain has nowhere to empty. And saturated ground shifts, taking buried pipes with it. None of this has to cause a fault, but each one is cheaper to find the morning after a storm than in the middle of the next one.
When a big storm has passed, spend ten minutes on three checks: the gully, the inspection chamber and the water meter.
-
The gully
Is runoff pouring over its grating, or has sand settled in it? A gully set level with the paving takes in storm water and grit it was never meant to handle.
-
The inspection chamber
Lift the cover nearest the boundary. Water running through and away is fine. Water standing in it means the restriction is further down the line.
-
The water meter
Close every tap and watch the small dial for two minutes. If it moves, water is escaping somewhere between the meter and the house.
Where call-outs tend to go wrong, and what we do instead
These come from the low-star reviews people around Pinetown leave for plumbers. They shaped how we work.
Insurance geyser jobs that drag on
When a geyser bursts on a claim, the visit begins with photographs of what failed and where, before anything comes out, and you hear plainly what looks like sudden damage and what looks like wear. Ceiling boards or roof tiles we lift are in the quote to put back. Your insurer decides what it pays; you go into that conversation with facts.
Blockages that return and get blamed on the City
The cause gets a name, and sand or silt comes out rather than being pushed further along. If the restriction is past your connection point, which eThekwini's by-law places about a metre inside your boundary, you are told, shown why, and helped to report it instead of paying to clear the City's pipe.
Promises about time that are not kept
There is no round-the-clock slogan on this site. When you get in touch, you hear honestly whether someone can come and roughly when, what to do about the water or power in the meantime, and you get a call if that changes.
How a call-out works
Prices are not listed here, because nobody can price a fault they have not seen. This is how the number gets worked out instead.
A phone call first
We phone back and ask the questions that change the job: is water still running, is the geyser switched off, does the house sit above the street or below it. How the call-out is charged is explained on that call.
Diagnosis before tools
The visit starts with looking and testing. If the fault needs more, such as a camera down the drain or a pressure test on a buried pipe, that step and its cost are agreed before it happens.
A price you can read
Materials listed apart from labour, with the way time is counted spelled out. When a repair and a replacement are both sensible, you see both, with the reason for each.
Left as we found it
Paving lifted, ceiling boards moved or roof tiles touched are part of the job and part of the price. The invoice names the work, the parts and anything still worth watching.
Questions people ask first
Price leads, since it is the first thing on most callers' minds.
How much does a plumber in Pinetown charge?
There is no honest single number, because a dripping tap and a collapsed drain under a driveway are both jobs for a plumber. What you learn before anybody leaves for your address is how the call-out is charged and what it covers.
When the cause is known, the work is written up with parts and labour priced apart, and you say yes or no before anything starts. Some jobs suit a fixed price and some are better charged by time; the quote says which.
Is the call-out fee credited if I go ahead with the repair?
That is settled on the phone before the visit, not at your gate. A trip out and the time spent finding the fault both cost something, which is why call-outs are usually charged. Whether it comes off the repair depends on the job, and you will know the answer before you say yes to anyone coming out.
Why does my drain only back up when it rains?
In a storm your drain is not only carrying the house's water. Runoff can pour into a gully that sits level with the paving, and the sewer further down may already be full of rainwater from connections that should never have been made. The blocked drain page explains how to tell which part of that is yours.
Can you help with an insurance claim for a burst geyser?
We can handle the plumbing side so that it stands up: photographs of the failed geyser, the drip tray and the damage before anything is moved, a note of what failed, and an itemised quote or invoice. Whether the claim pays is between you and your insurer, and insurers generally treat water damage as claimable only when it is sudden rather than the result of wear.
Some insurers send their own appointed plumber. Check with yours before you book anybody.
Which areas around Pinetown do you cover?
Pinetown itself and the suburbs listed below the form, from New Germany and Westmead to Cowies Hill, Sarnia and Mariannhill. Westville, Hillcrest and Queensburgh each have their own page, because each has its own reason pipes fail.
How can I tell if a plumber is properly registered?
PIRB, the Plumbing Industry Registration Board, keeps the national register of plumbers, so the quickest check is to ask for a PIRB number before work starts and look it up. Work on a geyser should come with a plumbing certificate of compliance. Gas is a separate trade, and anyone installing or certifying a gas appliance must be registered with SAQCC Gas.
Our water came back weak after an outage. Is the problem in the house?
Not necessarily. Pinetown's water comes through bulk pipelines from the Durban Heights works. On 7 July 2026 a leak on one of the two lines serving Pinetown, New Germany, Wyebank and Paradise Valley cut supply until it was repaired that night. If the whole street is weak, ask a neighbour before calling anyone. If only your house is, that is worth a look.
What should I do while I wait for you?
That depends on the fault, and the person who phones you back will say. As a rule of thumb, shut the main stopcock if water is escaping, and turn the geyser off at the distribution board too if it is part of the problem. Take photographs before you mop up, keep pets away from the work area, and make sure the gully and the inspection chamber can be reached. The emergency page covers the first move for each kind of emergency.
Tell us what is going on
